Dueling on PVE (Damn Gnats)

This is my first post here so if I step on toes I do apologize.  I play a lvl 25 Tauren Balance Druid.  Slow as hell but effective.  I generally play solo and enjoy that.  (too many years playing Final Fantasy alone)  Moreover, I understand the concept of dueling.  Two players want to throw down in a friendly competition.  Yours still in PVE, and they or you have to request the duel.  Now I don't know a lot of WoW etiquette, but if I don't want to duel I just decline and lumber on looking for the next raptor to kill.

However, the other night I lumber into Ratchet looking to complete some quest only to get challenged but some duel-wielding elf.  I decline and walk on.  Oh no... he requests again.  NO!  Again.  Sorry elfman no!  This prat runs and situates himself right in from of me, doing the chicken emote.   (Obviously dealing with a great mind here)Challenged again. NO!.  SO I sit in front of him and begin to log out as he is pissing me off now.  Now I don't know how it would have gone down, but I was level 23 and he was level 13.  I am pretty sure I would have flattened him.  but that is not the point.  I was not interested.  Anyone else get this sort of thing?  Does it bother you?  is there a proper way to nuke the pesky little gnats?  I am all ears folks.

Blegh, not much besides the ol' /ignore

I think there's an AddOn that automatically declines trades and/or duel requests, not sure though...

I will look it up and see what I can find. That sounds helpful.

Considering that you were ten levels above him, I think the proper etiquette would have been to lead him into a field of aggressive mobs that would have aggro'd to him immediately.

But I'm in a bad mood today, so perhaps that wouldn't have been so nice.

I like that thought. Somebody with a vicious streak. :::grins with a evil Tauren grin:::

If it was a night elf, it's unsurprising.

Typical of all the Nelfs I know.

Wow. So open and welcoming. Such refreshing take on the world. Gee.

How? I have never played with, or met a Night Elf that wasn't a total jerkoff. lol

I didn't say *all* were like that, just that it would not be surprising.

You're too defensive.

>Such refreshing take on the world
Really? Does that mean Night elves are your whole world? Because that's what I take from this weird statement.

Well, I'm pretty sure I'm not a total jerkoff, so now you know one. :P

Do I know you? lol

In the way that you felt threatened/angry enough and jumped to generalizations about my outlook about 'world of warcraft'.

Aww aren't you adorable! /pat
Nov. 7th, 2008 05:59 am (UTC)
And aww, aren't you just perpetuating the nelf hate/stereotyping by being condescending and pratish?

Nov. 7th, 2008 02:11 pm (UTC)
Who's a nelf? Are you? Is this self hatered? Cause I'm a human.
Nov. 7th, 2008 03:08 pm (UTC)
This was my point, exactly. I say that I have never been in an encounter with a 'nelf' that's not been a tard then you get all righteous.

Your arguments are circular.

Now now, this is about duels, and while you both are dueling well with words, the topic is being challenged to an unwanted duel, not Nelf, or Belf Loathing! (I made a pun!)

Re: nelf-loathing
XD Hooray!

I'm not sure if they put blocking duels into the default interface (I know they did for trade...but not sure about duels) but you can definitely download addons to autoblock them all. Which can be very handy.

/ignore if it's a belf
if it was a nelf the best you can do is turn in and continue on your way, preferably right into crossroads where the gaurds would nom nom nom on his brains.

The best thing you can do is exactly what you did- Just keep walking. What I like to do is leave the request window open until it automatically declines, by that time they pretty much get the hint. Besides if he was 10 levels lower than you? He was just being a dick anyway.

So it keeps them waiting till the timer auto-declines. I read the manual and all, but I must have forgotten that occured. So the chicken Nelf waits and waits and then gets the boot. Nice. Thank you

People do that all the freaking time- ignoring is the best option. I've had a 19 twink follow my seventy all across Loch Modan before, challenging me. I don't care if your a freaking 'twink'. My PET is gonna kick your butt. People just like to be annoying sometimes.
Nov. 7th, 2008 03:39 pm (UTC)
My decision to sit in front of him and ignore him. Next time I'll just scream that I am not interested in having his Tauren/elf lovechild and being in the barrens I'll pray for old Walker texas ranger to save me. LOL

"is there a proper way to nuke the pesky little gnats?"

If that is your goal, then in situations where you're 10 levels above said gnats, clicking on the "Accept" button is probably your only option.

If you were speaking metaphorically, then no, there's no way to make the gnats not exist, or not bother you. They'll always be there, and there'll always be a new generation coming along after Christmas.

Well I guess
...I am in the last batch, but I am not into dueling. Hell the first thing I encountered was the Hallows End. play two weeks and suddenly Northrend attacked. the Zombies were worst though... they were PVP on PVE. Won't get started on that though.

Thanks everyone for the suggestion and for making my first rant here the single most successful post I have ever had in livejournal history. You folks are AWESOME!!!

If you were standing IN ratchet when he was trying to duel you, he was likely farming honor. Low levels will camp out in the goblin towns and either duel or camp. As soon as you throw a hit... every bruiser/guard goblin will aggro you and likely kill you. ._. Free honor for the other guy. You did the right thing ignoring him.
